For the past week we have all been making an eco friendly cabin. I put solar panels on the top and a fire inside so that we don’t have to use as much power.
Timestables
Today we did 100 timetables and I got 86% right. My goal is to become faster so I have time at the end to work out the ones I don’t know.
Te Reo Māori
Today for Te Reo, we added onto our slide, we learned how to say things like inside and outside and how to say our city name and island in Māori. This is the slide
Book Week
This week is book week, and we have been given tasks to do over the past few days, and one of those tasks are making you own wordle. I made a wordle based on my favourite book. You can have a go and try to figure it out on this link: Wordle.
Our Dish Soap Alternative
For Inquiry we made an eco friendly dish soap that is easy to make at home. Me, Olivia, Amber and Jayde created it because I found out that 99% of the contents in dish washing liquid was harmful in some way, whether it be bad for the body or the environment. I feel it was quite successful compared to the store bought because we tested it and the amount of bacteria in the jelly from the store bought was a bit disturbing. We put 4 tablespoons of vinegar and a cup of water in it and we are still waiting for more results.
My Goal For Next Week
In the past, we have been doing some poetry. We are now setting our goals for next week, and I have decided that I wanted to get better at linking words and adjectives. I definitely need to get better and use more adjectives. I also use ‘and’ a lot, so my goal is to use other words like therefore, thereafter etc.
Poetry
In term 3 we worked on our poetry skills. We looked at metaphors, similes, repetition, alliteration and personification. I really enjoyed writing the poems in my poetry journal because I found it interesting to experiment with the different types. It was a bit hard to write the narrative poem because I couldn’t get it to not sound like a story instead of an actual poem. One example of a simile was the sentence, the thick ropes wrapped her neck like a python. Another example of a metaphor was, the gallows stood there, a giant lion ready to take out its victim. The first decent one I wrote was a heartbreak poem.
Remember when you and me used to climb to the roof and watch the stars?
Looking for answers to life’s problems
Remember when we used to run holding hands from the bully?
Hoping we wouldn’t get caught
Do you remember?
Do you remember?
Those times when we would stare into the lake and mourn our lost ones together
Thinking we would last forever
I don’t know what we were thinking
Now I just sit here in despair, holding the blue.
It used repetition and a metaphor and the type was a chain verse. This was also my favourite poem to write because it had meaning that made it easy for me to picture in my head.
Inquiry
This term we have been doing inquiry. In inquiry we picked a specific chemical cleaner, I chose to do the Palmolive dish soap original. We had to put down the name of the ingredients, what they’re used for, if they’re harmful and how they’re harmful. I found out that about 90% of the ingredients used are harmful to humans. Palmolive has promised that their dish soap is 100% biodegradable and safe for the family even though every ingredient is harmful but water.
